A home to industry but also idyllic allotments, a conservative small town somewhere in Kansas is getting ready for the Labor Day celebrations. All the roles seems to have been allocated until the group’s social structure succumbs to agitation and anxiety upon the arrival of a layabout. PICNIC was a prestige production in every sense. The script was based on the 1953 play of the same name by William Inge that won the Pulitzer Prize. Joshua Logan directed, who had already staged PICNIC for the Music Box Theatre on Broadway, where it was performed over 400 times.
